Marty would bring up the rear of the FESTIVAL brass section, blowing his cornet, as they marched on stage.
Then he would sing, "Leader of the Band" and introduce his Dad, "the leader of the band, Britt".

Around the age of 12, Marty became FESTIVAL's 3rd trumpet player
Marty, singing lead in front of FESTIVAL.
Around the age of 15 Marty laid down his horn and picked up the guitar. He hasn't laid it down since, and today, he is a masterful lead guitar player.
In 2000, after two years at Northwest Missouri State University, Marty joined the United States Army and became a paratrooper. This is Marty's 4th jump, and Dad was there...
...to greet him on the landing zone.
Now the rest of the story. Britt is pinning Marty's "Blood Wings" on his chest. The same wings given to Marty by the Jump School Commander at Ft. Benning, GA, when Marty jumped out of the jump training towers at age 7. He was told, "Now these wings will be your blood wings."

The sporting activity for this Father and Son, is playing music together.
Britt Small and Marty Small perform Music Therapy programs in VA hospitals, state veterans homes, and private care facilities all across the country.
You can see in this picture that Britt is very proud of his Eagle Scout and Airborne son, especially when he hits and holds the last note of God Bless America.
