15. Just A Singer (original release 2005)
I Am A Singer – You Are So Beautiful – The Way We Were – Lady – Three Times A Lady – Truly – Through The Years – Unforgettable – Soul & Inspiration – Time Of My Life – Two Out Of Three – Nights In White Satin
This is the album that the band members of FESTIVAL always wanted Britt to record. This is a collection of the powerful love ballads that made BRITT SMALL & FESTIVAL greatly loved by nightclubs, showrooms, & dance clubs all over the United States and Canada for 27 years. The opening song, "I Am A Singer", could be a musical autobiography of Britt's life as a singer and stage personality. The very personal lyrics are punctuated by a dynamic performance by the band, and especially the screaming trumpets. “You Are So Beautiful”, is a soft love song, showcasing the deep range of Britt's voice, accompanied by the mellow tones of the French horn, played by Mark. The memories flow through our minds as Britt floats and flies through "The Way We Were". The deep mellowness of Britt's voice returns, along with the "breathie" sweetness of Curt's tenor sax, as they bring a whole new dimension to the very popular and much-recorded Nat King Cole hit, "Unforgettable". When it comes to power singing, it's hard to beat Britt, his brother, Dave, and Britt's son, Marty, as they sing together on their blow-out version of the Righteous Brothers', “Soul & Inspiration”. “Time Of My Life", is a song that sounds like it was written just for Britt and Linda, and they make the sparks fly on their only recorded duet. When Britt sings songs written by Lionel Ritchie, the recordings by other singers are forgotten, as Britt brings new life and energy to "Lady", "Three Times a Lady", and on the song "Through The Years", with lyrics written by Britt's friend, Marty Panzer. Another song that could be autobiographical is, "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad", in which Britt laments and cries about his lost love. One of the greatest show tunes ever performed by BRITT SMALL & FESTIVAL is, "Nights In White Satin", by the Moody Blues. The song not only showcased the power of Britt's voice, and the power of the FESTIVAL, but it had to be conducted by Britt. It was recorded "live" in Max Stout Studio, by the entire band, in one take. The dream had been fulfilled.
