16. From My Heart (original release 2005)
One Fine Morning – 1849 – Step Out On The Sea – We Just Disagree – Sweet Music Man – To All The Girls – Always On My Mind – There You Are - I’m Still Dancing With You – Goin’ Back To Miami
This is an album that BRITT SMALL & FESTIVAL always wanted to record, and it finally came to life in 2005, five years after FESTIVAL retired. The Canadian influence comes back again in the first three songs, all by a Canadian group called LIGHTHOUSE. The first song, "One Fine Morning", is a rompin', stompin', brass kickin' love song that was the only hit that LIGHTHOUSE had in the United States, and we were playing the song when we were in college. "1849" is a beautiful mass vocal, with an intriguing brass line. The song is about the trials and tribulations faced by a wagon train going West during the gold rush, and how the pioneers' lives had changed due to the hardships they faced during the trip. In "Step Out On The Sea", Jesus is in a boat with his disciples, when a storm comes up, and Jesus tells his frightened disciples to have faith in him, and step out on the sea. When he has calmed the storm, they realize that they must put their trust in him, even though he appears to be only a man. Sometimes when people are apart for a time, they change, and disagree about some things. Such is the case in, "We Just Disagree". The song tells us to love each other, even though we may disagree on some things. "Sweet Music Man", is another autobiographical song about Britt. The song is a story about a singer who reaches into peoples' hearts, and languishes in the sound of his 12-piece band. He keeps on singing, even after the band is gone, and he "keeps on lookin' for one last fan to sing to". Britt sings to all of the wonderful ladies that he has known in his life in, "To All The Girls", and explains to his true love in, "You Were Always On My Mind", that he is sorry that he didn't love her as good as he should have. "There You Are" is about Britt looking around his room, and he closes his eyes there is the band. In "I'm Still Dancing With You", Britt dances with a stranger, but can't let go of the memory of his true love. "Goin' Back To Miami", brings the album back up. This a live recording from years ago, and it is the theme song of WAYNE COCHRAN & THE C.C. RIDERS, who were an early influence on FESTIVAL.
