At the request of FESTIVAL's hard-core fans, here's "The Best Comedy of BRITT SMALL & FESTIVAL" on DVD for $12.50
So you thought BRITT SMALL & FESTIVAL were strictly red, white and blue, very serious, with little sense of humor. Then you didn’t see them in a setting where they could really let their hair down! There were more than two sides to FESTIVAL. But the two sides that stood out the most were the serious, patriotic, veteran-oriented performances, and the comedic side that many people never saw unless they saw FESTIVAL in Las Vegas, at a fair, or in a nightclub. So we’ve captured the best comedy bits for you to have that big belly laugh in the privacy of your own home! FESTIVAL never knew before hand what a venue would be like. Whether it would be inside on a small stage, or outside in a muddy tractor-pull grandstand. But when it was show time, no matter the setup, they would “hook” an audience, using different styles of music, and silly antics to get the crowd interested and laughing. It was a means of crowd control, and entertainment for the band members themselves. The more the crowd laughed, the more the band laughed, and the more the band laughed, well, the better the show.
This DVD starts just like FESTIVAL’s shows started, “hooking” the audience. This time, with the brass line dancing and Britt’s outstanding show tunes like “Mack the Knife” and “Memory”, which give you an opportunity to hear Britt’s dynamic vocal styling, while Don’s goofing off. It also features the tight vocal harmonies of FESTIVAL, and it shows the discipline of FESTIVAL while Britt conducts the band in FESTIVAL’s bluesy rendition of “I Got News”. Don Struve was usually the one responsible for the foolishness. It was almost a Jekyll & Hyde situation, because Don took his job very seriously. He practiced, worked-out, practiced, wrote all of the brass section arrangements, practiced, wrote original songs, practiced, took martial arts, practiced, raised a family, and practiced some more. But, when it was time to be funny, Don used props, mime, and dirty innuendoes, just to make the audience laugh. But most of all, he made the band laugh. He never showed the band new gags, he just sprung them during a performance, and a lot of times, he would ad-lib his routines. The real objective was to “break up” Britt while he was trying to sing serious love songs. Because of the limited space on most stages, some routines had to be choreographed, so nobody would get hurt. Nobody got hurt, but the mics took some serious beatings. There were many miscues in 27 years of playing together, and the mistakes were usually the funniest part of the show. Don expended a tremendous amount of energy during a performance, and he was definitely a favorite of the kids. He was FESTIVAL’s “Bozo”. This DVD...It’s just plain silly! This DVD spans years of traveling cross-country entertaining audiences of all ages, sharing laughs, and having fun. Get the popcorn ready for 2 hours of The Best Comedy of BRITT SMALL & FESTIVAL.
